  • What gear do I need to bring to a Hike To Hunt Archery Challenge event?
Bring whatever you would need for both a day of hiking and a day of shooting. Bring plenty of water, snacks, good boots, sunscreen, extra arrows, arrow puller and a positive attitude. Come out to have fun, but please be safe.
  • Are Parking Permits Required?
Some events do require a parking permit, and for those you will be prompted to answer the question during registration. YOU WILL NOT BE ALLOWED THROUGH THTE GATE WITHOUT YOUR PARKING PERMIT, AND PERMITS ARE NOT AVAILABLE TO PURCHASE AT THE EVENT. If the number of available permits is reached, the event will be considered "sold out", even if the maximum number of registrations has not been met.
  • How are the targets set up...how challenging is it?
We do our best to make the atmosphere fun and challenging by creating realistic, real-world scenarios. There will be hikes across different terrain, and some shots will be partially obscured by obstacles such as trees and rocks. Some shots are challenging due to the incline or decline, and some are a combination of elevation and obstruction. Check out the "Gallery" tab or visit us on social media to see photos and videos from our events.
  • Can I shoot multiple courses in one day?
Yes, you sure can...just depends on your physical ability and time you want to spend on the courses. Each day, you need to start with the course and at the time you selected during registration. After you complete the initial course, all courses are open for anyone to start...we stop allowing people to start courses at 4pm.
  • What if I am not comfortable shooting at or above 100 yards?
The shooting cones are set at the MAXIMUM safe shooting distance for any given target...some are near 100yds and a few are even past that distance. For any of the targets set at distant viewpoints, you can always walk CLOSER to the target to bring it within your comfort zone or the capability of your equipment.
  • Is this a scored competition?
Nope, this is all just for fun and enjoyment...your missed shots are just as entertaining as your 10 rings. You will be given a scorecard if you like, but it's just for you or for your group to figure out who is buying dinner. If you want to compete against others and win cash & other prizes, we have a skills challenge available for that.
  • Is there a Warm-Up Range
Yes, there is a warm-up and sight-in range to get your bow and your shoulders ready for the courses.
  • What type of targets are we shooting at?
All of our targets are professional Rinehart targets. These high-quality targets range in size from smaller animals like fox and javelina, to larger game like deer and elk.
  • What does a day of shooting cost for the HTH?
Ticket prices vary depending on the venue and the packages offered. The individual event details page and the registration page for each event have exact pricing. Usually, a single day costs between $35 and $45 while a Total-Access pass costs between $60 and $80. Some events also have VIP packages with limited availablity and priced around $150. The Sitka Archery Season Pass is also available again for $675. Shooters 15 and under are $20 for a 1-day or FREE with Total-Access and VIP passes. Non-Shooter tickets are $10-$20 per event...we truly like to see the entire family out enjoying the course! Some events require the purchase of a lift / gondola ticket to reach the courses. Depending on the pass type chosen, these tickets are either included or additional.
  • What is the youngest age I can shoot without an adult?
You need to be at least 18 years old with valid ID to shoot without an adult. We encourage younger shooters to come out and enjoy the event, but anyone under 18 is required to have an adult present at check-in and on the course while shooting at all times.
  • I shot a specific event last year, is it going to be the same setup?
We do our best to completely change the courses and the shot selection each year, even at the same venues. We are all 3D shooters ourselves, and believe we know what is fun and challenging. We make sure your experience reflects our experience.
  • The forecast next week looks like rain will be present, will the event be cancelled?
Nope...we don't cancel the event anything short of a Forest Service closure due to emergencies such as wildfire. The events are supposed to simulate real-world hunting situations...it rains while you hunt, right? If you choose to not go shoot during your time slot, you are welcome to wait out the weather and shoot at the open course time of 1pm if the weather is more favorable for you.
  • Is there camping available at the events?
Sometimes, on a limited basis, we have camping spots available depending on the venue. If there are any spots left available, they will be listed in the optional purchase items during registration. If you reserve a camp spot, instructions will be emailed to you regarding rules and expectations. If you do not get a camp spot, there may be first-come-first-served dispersed camping nearby on National Forest land, all NF rules apply. Many venues are within 30 minutes of a major city with several hotel accommodations to choose from.
  • What is the PSE Skills Challenge?
The PSE Skills Challenge is a great way to make your bow and your skill earn you some money or prizes from our sponsors. Please click the "Prize Pool" tab in the menu to get full details and rules.
  • Can I rent equipment at the event?
We do not offer any gear rentals at the event. A lot of time must be spent to have your bow and arrow selection set up to your specific requirements...and there are a ton of variables best suited to be sorted out at your local shop. Some vendors, such as Vortex Optics, do allow participants to use their products on the courses to get a feel for what they have to offer. This is determined by each vendor and at their discretion.
  • Can I use a crossbow?
Unfortunately, our permits and insurance do not allow for the use of crossbows on the courses or the warmup range.
